The Care & Keeping of YOU Collection

Saturday, February 2, 2013

I recently noticed that The Care & Keeping of YOU collection of books for girls is being revised by American Girl and will be made available for purchase February 26, 2013.  In the description on Amazon it says the following...

"Our best-selling body book for girls just got even better! With all-new illustrations and updated content for girls ages 8 and up, it features tips, how-tos, and facts from the experts. You'll find answers to questions about your changing body, from hair care to healthy eating, bad breath to bras, periods to pimples, and everything in between. Once you feel comfortable with what's happening, you'll be ready to move on to the The Care & Keeping of You 2!"

Kind of interesting!  I've looked at this collection before and have had the thought to purchase it but up to this point I've put it off since my daughter is only 8 at this time but this new revised collection states that it's meant for the younger crowd starting at age 8 so we'll see...

Does anyone have the current versions of these books?  Thoughts or opinions that you want to share?  We love that American Girl puts out so many books that are "self-help" for girls and empowering as well...this set seems to be something perfect for that time of coming of age for girls when they are fast approaching young womanhood.

We would love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I stumbled across your blog when looking up ideas of how to make accessories for my daughter's dolls. Thank you for sharing these ideas with us! My daugther and I are going to have a craft day over spring break and make several different things for her dolls.
As far as these books go, this past Fall I encouraged my husband (fiance at the time, I recently adopted his daughter and he's raised her alone for the past 4 years) to purchase one of these books for her. She was 11 at the time and to the best of my knowledge knew nothing of the changes that would be happening soon. I really like the Care and Keeping of You book and it made it very easy for us to bring up this topic with her. She spend hours reading over it and looking at it. She also had some questions about parts at she wanted more clarification on. It made the transition VERY easy and helped a bunch in bringing to topics to light! I'd recommend it to ANYONE with a girl who is getting to that age of needing to know what will be happening to their body.
